Why we'd choose a German Shepherd again

People usually ask us the same question: should I get a German Shepherd? The honest answer is a question back — how much of your week are you willing to hand over?

A GSD is not a low-maintenance dog. It's a working dog living in a house, and that gap is where most problems come from.

What you get

Loyalty that borders on ridiculous. A dog that reads the room, learns fast, and wants a job more than he wants a nap.

Training a GSD feels like a conversation. You teach something once and he's already testing the edges of it by day two.

What it costs you

Daily physical exercise plus mental work. A tired body with a bored brain still ends with a chewed doorframe.

Hair. Everywhere, all year, on things you didn't know he'd been near. Plan for it and it stops being a shock.

Who they're actually right for

People who like structure and don't mind training being part of the routine. If a 20-minute session sounds fun rather than like a chore, you'll love this breed.

We'd do it again tomorrow. But we'd tell anyone asking to be honest about their week first.

Right dog, right life. That's the whole thing.
